Laundry

OK so this post is mostly about laundry. Shudders. And maybe you are one of those blessed people who has laundry and dishes all figured out and maybe you really live to do those things. Bully for you. You may move along to the next thing on the internet.

For the rest of us, these executive functioning tasks SUCK! Doubly if you are a parent. I don't know about you but I get to my pile of laundry after dealing with my kid at the end of the day and let out the biggest sigh and just close the door. Which is basically a metaphor for how I live my life as a parent: Child first, mommy.... And that's the reality if you're poor and don't have support. And let me be clear: I'm not complaining. I made my choices. I'm gay. It's not like this was an accident.

So I learned little ways of elbowing in my self care moments. I maybe spend more time in the bathroom than I actually need. I've gotten really into gardening. And I've found time to paint again. Seriously, I'm running out of room on my walls.

And sometimes, it's about accepting realities you can't change. Like laundry. I have read post after post on how to make ADHD and other neurospicy laundry adaptations. But the only thing that ever works for me is if I get the laundry right when it comes out and put it away immediately and my spouse does the laundry because they actually put my kid's laundry away. So I take 8-.... business days to put mine away because.. it's just how the cookie crumbles. I fought this for so long. But it's just the organized mess I'm coming to accept. The truth is: you are human. And the expectations we somehow still live with are from when even low middle class people had help. Explotative help, but help. And that's not reality anymore. You are one person. So allow yourself to be ONE person. Take a breath. Let the mess be messy. Allow for the reality we live in. And go enjoy what matters in life. And I don't care what anyone says: that is NOT laundry.
