Being a Tree

So there's an old video of a monk (see linked below) who's slow walking through a city ringing a bell. The city is bustling around him moving as a city does but there he remains, moving intentionally slow, step by step through the bustling city.
This world moves fast. So fast, that sometimes, the best protest, the most intentional, and the most difficult is to just stop and be slow; to plant yourself like a tree.
A tree has roots. It sinks them deep into the ground to hold itself steady. It grows tall and it breathes and holds space for all those who come under it because of its deep roots. It moves slowly. It stands firm. It quietly protests. It breathes slowly and deeply breathing life into itself and sustaining all those around it in turn.
However you take care of yourself, it's important you do so you can care for those around you. It is often while we are caring for ourselves that the caring for others takes place too. We see this in nature all over the place. Just look at bees. All they're doing is making honey. And while they are caring for their hive and sustaining their bodies, the earth thrives.
So go be trees and bees. Remember you are not alone. And protest quietly with your peace.
