You know what I think Demand Avoidance really is? Karma. We are in the age of information right now. Everyone is telling everyone else what to do with their lives: how to eat, how much to each, what not to eat, what to wear, what not to wear, who to date, who not to date, what apps to use, what schools to send your kids to, what groups to hang out with, what political party to align yourself with, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on. Enter: Demand Avoidance. Demand Avoidance says: a fat NO to all that and does what it wants anyway. See? Karma.
When I was a Fundie, it was my responsibility to save everyone else's souls. If I didn't, it was my fault that they went to hell. That kind of indoctrination is hard to shake. But I learned a hard lesson after becoming an ex-fundie: the best work a person can do is one they do because it makes sense to them. No fundie script will ever replace the voice inside a person's heart. My job is just to help amplify that voice because as an ex-fundie late diagnosed femme autistic, I know how easily that voice can be squashed till you can barely hear it.
So go be Karma. Walk your own path. Be loud. Be balance even when the world fights you on it. Let this post give you strength to fight another day.
